When is Myrtle Beach Senior Week 2012?

That all depends on when you graduate. There is no set date for Myrtle Beach Senior Week. Actually, the whole month of June is considered Myrtle Beach Senior Week!
Myrtle Beach Senior Week Tips:

  • Ocean front beach rentals are usually the first to fill up, and the most expensive. Staying across the street from the ocean can save you lots of money.
  • With gas prices rising everyday, have a game plan and try to get a rental that’s central to that game plan. Within walking distance or a short drive from “home”.
  • Buy things like suntan oil and beach towels in Myrtle Beach. You’ll find a beachwear store on every corner, so prices on these type items are lower here.

Senior Week at the Beach Is a Fact of life

Yes, it’s a fact of life in many beach towns and Myrtle Beach is no exception. A traditional “rite of passage” is to unwind and celebrate the end of the years of secondary education. Call it Senior Week, June Bugs or whatever, it is a week of celebratory glee at the end of a “job well done” – High School Graduation.

So why Myrtle Beach? Coastal South Carolina is convenient to many cities in the Central Atlantic states, it has great weather and relatively warm waters in early June. There are also a lot of accommodations awaiting the prime weeks of summer vacation when families pay much higher rates for their annual vacation at the beach. Those places go “for cheap” in the weeks before the prime rental season.

Many of the hotels and motels are willing (and even eager in many cases) to rent to seniors. But there are also those that will not rent to anyone under a certain age – usually 21. Please check their age policy carefully and do not be tempted to lie about your age(es) just to get a reservation. Let me repeat that – do NOT be tempted to lie about your age to get a reservation. Every year there are many disappointed arrivals who are turned away when the front desk requires a show of ID – that includes a photo and date of birth.

Now that that’s out of the way. Go ahead, look through some of the ads on this website and others and find a great, but affordable, place to stay. Just make sure to verify all of their policies – including the deposit requirements and number of persons accommodated in a room and, yes, even whether visitors are allowed or not.

However, you shouldn’t need to worry too much about the actual room, or rooms. After all, how much time will you really be there? You will be out and about ’till all hours – the room is mainly a place to sleep, shower and store your stuff.

Don’t let sunburn ruin your fun

Congratulations on receiving your diploma and being ready for the next chapter in your life. We wish you a great Senior Week in Myrtle Beach. Enjoy yourself, have fun and celebrate with your friends and classmates.

Too much sun during senior week at the beachPlease be careful – and don’t let sunburn ruin your fun. In this case we’re not casting warnings about the dangers of too much fun in the sun. I’m sure you’ve heard all that “stuff” in science class and one day you may actually heed the advice. (Just not this week, right?) What I’m talking about is overdoing the beach thing the first day on the Grand Strand. You could end up looking like the gal in the photo – and be in pain for the next couple days of your vacation. No way to enjoy yourself – for sure.

Look at the picture and think – but not about messing up your skin far into the future. Think instead of not messing up tomorrow and the next day. The skin around those “tan lines” could very well turn into blisters or “sun poisoning” by sunset – and that would be a true shame (or even a visit to Doc-in-a-Box). Don’t forget that the “pain” shows up a few hours after exposure. You can easily get too much sun without feeling any discomfort – until later.

The warnings for future “skin care” all say, “Use sunblock and limit your time in the sun.” That advice also holds true for NOT messing up two days of your one-week, senior week stay at the beach. We want you to have fun – we expect you to have fun – but being in pain is NO FUN.

We really do have Weather at the beach

Yep, we really do have weather in Myrtle Beach. Contrary to what some people think when they think “BEACH,” it is not always sunny and warm during senior week. red cumulus clouds over the beachMake sure to pack something with long sleeves and a jacket or sweatshirt. Sorry to say this, but you might even consider packing one of those cheap plastic ponchos – just in case.

So…what can you really expect when you get here? In the early part of June, when most seniors arrive to celebrate their graduation (all those years of study and hard work), the weather is usually ideal. Note that we said, “usually.” The daytime temperature is in the high 70 or low to mid 80s. The surf temperature should be in the low 70s, but please don’t hold us to it.

Click HERE to see a 5-day forecast from the National Weather Service.

But you should, in reality, be optimistic. It is “your” senior week at the beach – to celebrate, not be stuck indoors. With Myrtle Beach having an average of about 65 days per year with temperatures at 90 or above, you are almost certain to have some days of sunny and hot. Enjoy.
